In their research summary series, the National Adult Protective Services Resource Center and National Committee for the Prevention of Elder Abuse summarize findings from published research and discuss what these findings can mean for practice. This brief summarizes a 2011 article in Journal of Elder Abuse & Neglect by Kim Alt, Annie Nguyen, and Linda Meurer. The article reviewed evaluations of the effectiveness of educational programs for health and social services professionals in detecting, managing, and preventing elder mistreatment. The article identified training components that result in increased knowledge and self-reported capacity to handle abuse cases. Contact the CVR Library about access to the full text of the study.
