dc.description.abstract In 2013, at least 285,000 people age 12 or older were victims of sexual assault, according to the Bureau of Justice statistics. Studies have shown that victims of these heinous crimes receive better care and more suspects are prosecuted when forensic medical examiners are involved. A team led by Katherine Iritani, a director in GAO's Health Care team, recently reviewed the availability of forensic examiners nationwide. GAO's Jacques Arsenault sat down with Katherine to talk about what they found.
