Abstract:
This slide set draws from recent research (1999-2010) to discuss children’s exposure to intimate partner violence (IPV) and the effect of home visitation. It reviews research and statistics on the negative impacts of IPV exposure on children’s health (including physical health, socio-emotional health, and low health care use) and on co-occurrence of child abuse. The presentation also reviews the results of a recent study estimating whether home visitation in the Hawaii Healthy Start Program was associated with changes in rates of mothers’ IPV victimization and perpetration, finding that both did decrease during the years of implementation. It also lists possible explanations of the results and improvements to the program. (CVRL Abstract)
