dc.description.abstract This slide set, part of a congressional briefing, reviews the methodology and results of a study on Adverse Childhood Experiences (ACEs) drawn from 17,421 participants at the CPMC Bayview Child Health Center. The study measured how many ACEs each child had experienced and distinguished between participants exposed to 1 or more ACE and those exposed to 4 or more ACEs. The briefing summarizes the main neurologic, immunologic, epigenetic, and endocrine impacts of ACEs, and their connection to behavioral problems, their effects on educational outcomes, and the increased risk of illness and early death. The presentation urges intervention through coordinated public health response in conjunction with greater opportunities for research and the translation of research into practice.
