dc.description Research Brief en_US
dc.description.abstract This research brief analyzes research articles on the relationship between sexual violence, physical health, and mental health. The research articles below, published between 2001 and 2010, demonstrate that lifetime sexual victimization is correlated with physical health problems, mental health problems and high-risk behaviors (i.e., substance abuse, unprotected sex). Negative health outcomes of sexual assault afflict all sexes, stemming from both childhood and adult sexual traumas. This research brief can help stakeholders, including sexual assault advocates and health care providers, understand the ways that sexual victimization can trigger or exacerbate physical and mental health conditions.
