Abstract:
This paper provides an overview of the victimization of young men of color, primarily through homicide, assault, and robbery, as well as the many failure of the victim services field to adequately address this victimization. It further details how the current lack of appropriately targeted services contributes to significant lasting impacts on these young men in the areas of health, education, employment, safety, and cost. It also tracks barriers to services encountered by this population, such as lack of services, self-perception, and negative experiences with law enforcement. Finally, the brief makes suggestions on what can be done to respond to this gap. (CVRL Abstract)
