Abstract:
The Equal Employment Opportunity Commission (EEOC), the federal agency charged with enforcing federal labor laws that prohibit workplace discrimination, released findings from a year-long look into harassment in the workplace. The Select Task Force on the Study of Harassment in the Workplace was created in January 2015 and invited 16 people to participate as members who represent a wide range of interests including employers, organized labor, employee advocacy groups, academics, and attorneys…From April 2015 through June 2016, the Task Force held a series of meetings at different locations throughout the country. Testimony was presented by more than 30 witnesses over the course of the year…In addition to testimony providing first-person experiences of harassment and expert testimony, staff from the Task Force conducted a wide-ranging literature review on different aspects of harassment that would contribute to providing the most comprehensive picture of workplace harassment as was currently possible. This report of the Task Force on Workplace Harassment provides a call to action for all organizations, businesses, and employers to recognize and take steps to address and prevent workplace harassment.
