Abstract:
This fact sheet reviews basic demographics and statistics on domestic violence within the Bangladeshi, Bhutanese, Indian, Nepali, Pakistani, and Sri Lankan communities in the United States. It draws from the U.S. Census, the reports “Shattered Lives: Homicides, Domestic Violence and Asian Families,” “Asian family violence report: A study of the Cambodian, Chinese, Korean, South Asian, and Vietnamese communities in Massachusetts,” and “Broken Promises: Domestic Violence Murders and Attempted Murders in the U.S. and Canadian South Asian Communities,” as well as survey research published in Journal of Family Violence, Violence Against Women, and Journal of American Medical Women’s Association. The fact sheet concludes with a listing of translated materials and resources. Note: updated version of the 2012 fact sheet though some of the statistical research cited is older, as far back as 2000. (CVRL Abstract)
