dc.description.abstract In 2017, a woman in Texas was killed every 2.5 days, contributing 136 deaths to the worldwide total...39% of women killed in 2017 died at the hands of their current or former male intimate partner. In 2017, law enforcement officers in Texas responded to 195,315 incidents of family violence; approximately 40% of these incidents were intimate partner violence. Women and girls comprised 72% of victims of family violence. Fourteen percent of family violence assaults (28,125) were classified as aggravated assault, typically involving the use of weapons, strangulation, or more serious injurious assaults. Four percent of assaults against law enforcement officers (180) occurred while responding to family violence. [CVRL Note: this report also includes narratives about the victims' lives.
