dc.description.abstract This report presents the findings of a national survey of service providers, advocates, and attorneys who work with survivors of sexual assault and domestic violence regarding policing. More than 900 people responded to the survey. Respondents reported significant levels of police hostility to domestic violence and sexual assault victims and police bias on the basis of race, gender, class, immigration status, youth, mental health disability, drug use, sexual orientation, and sexual identity. Respondents also noted negative collateral consequences that often flow from involving law enforcement in the areas of immigration consequences, child welfare involvement, economic deprivation, and arrest or other punitive responses to the victim.
