dc.description.abstract The purpose of the Indiana Crime Victimization Survey (ICVS) was to collect data on crimes, both reported and unreported, in Indiana during a specified time period. The survey's intent was to provide an in-depth overview of specific crime types, victim demographics, victim-offender relationship, if crimes were reported or unreported, and if a crime was unreported to law enforcement the reasons why. The survey was created to supplement the data collected in the Uniform Crime Reporting Program (UCR). The UCR collects national data of police arrests and crimes reported to the police. Currently, Indiana law enforcement agencies are not mandated to report to the UCR Program. Further, many crimes are never reported to the police, contributing to an incomplete account of crime. ICVS provides an additional measure of crime and victimization in Indiana by seeking out information on both reported and unreported crimes. The ICVS was modeled after the National Crime Victimization Survey. Questions from other states' crime victimization surveys were also adapted for Indiana's survey. (Author Abstract) en_US
