Abstract:
This article outlines three areas where additional research and data and alternative research methods are needed related to female crime victims, in particular for sexual violence and harassment, as these crimes are often not reported to the police; elder abuse as older adults are predominately women; and women as offenders. The author outlines why these areas of study matter, what's lacking currently in the research, and proposed methods and sample studies to collect more information to inform evidence-based policies and address gender-based violence. This article is part of a series in the 2019 Winter issue of Translational Criminology Magazine. The articles are based on presentations from the Division on Women and Crime (DWC) of the American Society of Criminology, during a fall congressional briefing on Translating Research to Policy: Improving Justice for Women and Girls.
